[SOLVED] Create 'Mask' on Material does not create a coarse texture

Hope I get this right.

a ) I am creating a Terrain from scratch.

I am creating a Diffuse texture with the create button. --- ok --- also diplayed in the diffuse slot

I am creating a Normal texture with the create button.  --- ok --- also diplayed in the normal slot

I am creating a Mask texture with the create button. The chunks have been created following the log, but no coarse mask is created and assigned in the slot for the mask.

Is this normal, do I need to assign a mask, rather than creating a mask??

Do I need to load a mask?

I now imported a mask via the import Button -  and assigned it in the mask slot.

Before you can do that, you HAVE TO create materials -  in the terrain node - !

Docu:

It is possible to add a Mask texture only after detail materials have been added in the editor, because the mask is mapped to material indices when imported. The mask specifies the visibility of detail materials (up to four per surface) throughout the terrain.

ok.

[sOLVED] Still there is this question, why not a coarse mask is created and assigned?

b ) Following the steps above, and doing the following:

I create a new material library, save it.

I inherit a mesh_terrain_base material too the new library.

I assign the material ...... Terrain is gone invisible.

Why?

Assigning a terrain_base material works, but a mesh_terrain_base makes it disappear.

[sOLVED] , but what is the difference between those 2 materials? [sOLVED]

c ) Painting on a flat Terrain is not possible.

I somehow managed it one time, but I cannot recreate that on a new terrain.

----- OK: It has to be explained, that explicitely a height map has to be loaded, otherwise painting is not possible!

It seems that the settings for the brush (see attachment) with a value 1 is not a valid paint setting.

Lowering the setting anything below 1 does work.

Right, I think I am getting somewhere. It is all a bit, lets say, confusing for me atm, as the values are dependent from other settings etc.

I have to get into that.

Is this value an absolute value? I hav added a height map, which is white ( I guess this is 1, and black is 0).

[sOLVED] but some values would need some more explanation.

best.

W.
