Terrain Object - Lighting Changes when Reloading Project (causing artifacts)

Hello,

I have attached 2 screenshots of the issue...

My terrain object is exhibiting lighting artificats, black boxes over itself, and changes in lighting randomly, especially noticeable when slewing over the object.

When I saved my project, everthing was fine and looked normal. After reloading the sved project, the terrain object exhibited the faulty lighting. If I disable the terrain object, the faulty lighting and block artifacts go away.

I was also able to reproduce the problem by manually copying / re-creating the same general settings in a new project. Though I have not isolated the specific setting that causes it, I think it is related to when you modify one of the lighting settings (HDR, Exposure, Sun Rays, Einstein, etc...), after changing the "mystery setting" and then saving the project, it seems to corrupt the lighting of the terrain object. The problem is you don't know the project is bad until you reload it, so you lose all your work (well that particular terrain object becomes unuseable).

Let me know if you are aware of this issue or if there is a solution?

Thanks,

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

Probably, your problem is not related to the terrain. There is a known issue regarding the HDR settings and ObjectWater / ObjectWaterMesh objects. Could you please try to disable HDR or water objects to check if this issue is gone?

Thanks!

Thanks, that "almost" fixed it, it did get rid of the black box and the artifacts.

However, it left me with a lot of white clipping and some pixelated banding, as if the various gamma points on the tone curve are now distorted or something. If I try to counter the white clipping with the contrast control, then I lose some detail and seem to be clipping various other IRE / gamma levels possibly on other color channels that are just "close to white".

Any other ideas on how to maybe reset the lighting further, before I try to recreate my work...

Thanks...

Hi Kevin,

I'm afraid with disabled HDR you have not so much options to adjust the colors.

I'm also not quite sure what settings you changed and what are not saved from your description. Could you please investigate it further or provide us a step-by-step guide to reproduce this issue?

Thanks!
