A stupid question, I'm working to align two elements and a 2D top view will be useful. Can't find a way to achieve it.

There is no 2d views currently available in Editor. You can create new viewport (Windows -> Add Scene Viewport) and by clicking on top of the viewcube change the camera view. Additionally you can set camera to use orthographic matrix.
