Extending main IDE with C# Editors?

I am wondering is it possible to add custom menu items and editor windows using just C#? Or is C++ my only method via QT?

If not, is it planned for the future?

At the moment, this is only possible with C++/Qt. A C# editor extension would indeed be a great addition, but it is currently quite difficult to implement. Perhaps in the future (very distant one), we will be able to support both C++ and C# editor plugins.
